Program Overview
The Maryland Clinical Simulation Resource Consortium (MCSRC) is designed to increase the quality and quantity of clinical simulation used across all levels of nursing education in Maryland, from pre-licensure to Advanced Practice Nurses (APRNs). The goals of the MCSRC are to: promote the use of simulation in nursing education in Maryland, establish simulation quality guidelines that promote patient safety, increase the number faculty who achieve Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator ® (CHSE®) certification or Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator-Advanced® (CHSE-A®) certification, track and trend changes in simulation integration into nursing education across the State at undergraduate and graduate programs as well as serve as a simulation resource for Maryland nursing programs.
The MCSRC Simulation Train the Trainer Program provides training to enable nursing faculty and hospital nurse educators to become experts in the use of simulation in nursing education. NSP II funds support the cost of participation in the Simulation Train the Trainer Program for faculty and staff of all Maryland nursing programs and Maryland hospitals who meet eligibility criteria.
Maryland institutions with nursing degree programs and hospital nursing education departments may nominate faculty and staff to participate in the Simulation Train the Trainer program.

Background
Simulation provides a safe environment for learning new skills and procedures, including prioritization and teamwork. As part of its patient safety program, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) supports simulation research. The National Council of State Boards of Nursing, through a national simulation research study, determined that simulation can be included for up to 50% of the clinical experiences in a nursing program (Hayden, et al., 2014) without impacting nurse graduate quality or performance. By providing a safe learning environment and decreasing the pressure on clinical agencies, clinical simulation can be used to promote safety and enable nursing programs to expand.
